          Windows XP is popular operating system that is designed by Microsoft Corporation. It is an interpreter between hardware and software, and provides working an environment to the user. It also controls the hardware, such as printer, disk drives, monitor, etc. Using a mouse and clicking on the item generally access Windows XP.

Starting Windows XP

Ø  If your CD drives contain floppy disk, remove it first.

Ø  Power on the switch.

Ø  Wait until screen displays the Desktop.

What is Desktop?

         In Windows, The screen is called Desktop, where we can deposit and arrange objects on it, just as upon a real object. It is also an initial point of Windows.

Icon

         Icon is a picture. Windows XP uses small video icons. That represents object –documents. This picture is called as icon.

My Computer

          You can My Computer to open quickly and easily seeing everything on your computer. Double click on My Computer icon on the desktop to browse through your file and folder.

Mouse Pointer

            Mouse Pointer is the guide of windows environment. It represents the position of your pointer screen.

Recycle Bin

            Recycle Bin is the temporary storage place in which all deleted files and folders are stored. Windows stores deleted files in the recycle bin, which is located on the desktop. You can use the recycle bin to retrieve files you deleted in error or empty the recycle bin to create more disk space.

Start button and taskbar

            At the bottom of your screen is the taskbar. It contains the start button, which you can use to quickly start a program or to find a file. It's also the fastest way to get Help. When you open a program, document or window, a button appears on the taskbar. You can use this button to quickly switch between the windows you have opened.

Find                : - Helps to find a files or folder on your system.

Help                : - Provides help about windows XP.

Run                 : - Provides enhanced command- line type functionally from the start button.

Shut Down     : - Allows for easily accessible and safe shutdown, restart & logoff.
